Ryan grew up in Mission, TX down in the Rio Grande Valley.  He learned to hunt and fish in the diverse lakes, bays, and brushlands of south Texas. Ryan left the Valley after high school to attend Texas A&M, earning a degree in civil engineering.  After graduation, Ryan joined the Navy and became an F/A-18 pilot.  The 23 years Ryan spent in the Navy provided him with an opportunity to see the world and fish and hunt in a lot of places around the county. After retiring from the Navy, Ryan moved back to Texas and began work as an aviation consultant and realtor.
